"Another new school, another new identity. I've lost track on how many there have been throughout the years... As is the case with all high schools, there are crowds of kids hanging around outside. They are divided into cliques, the jocks and the cheerleaders, the band kids carrying instruments, the brains in their glasses and their textbooks and blackberries, the stoners off to one side oblivious to everyone else." (pg65)

The quotation above and below, taken from Pitticus Lore's science fiction novel, I Am Number Four, synthesizes the setting of his book really well. They include the location of the novel, being Paradise, Ohio and the house of where they lived before. The narrator describes the town of Paradise being a lazy, old, shaggy and plain town. There's not really anything in Paradise that is out of ordinary. The school is all the same, ordinary. With its classic cliques running the school. The Protagonist just wants to fit without attracting any attention which happens to follow him around a lot.

"We pass an old gas station, a car wash, a cemetery. Then the houses begin, clapboard houses spaced thirty or so feet apart. Halloween decoration hang in the windows of most of them. Sidewalks cut through small yards leading to front doors. A traffic circle sits in the centre of town, and in the middle of it is a statue of a man on horseback holding a sword." (pg48)

The horseman statue:
- Paradise Ohio is full of self confidence and pride.
Cliques in the high school:
- The author is telling the reader that the school is just an ordinary public school.
John Smith:
- John is only trying to blend in without attracting any attention. However, as much as he tries, attention seems to always follow him.
- Henry always has Johns back. When John has his first legacy kick in at school, Henry knew something was wrong and Immediately went to the school to check on John.
